General Podiatry

General podiatry covers the everyday foot health concerns that bring most patients through our doors, from calluses and corns to fissures and other common conditions. We see patients of all ages, from children to older adults.

What does general podiatry cover?

General podiatry includes the assessment and treatment of calluses, corns, skin fissures, ingrown toenails, and other everyday foot conditions. It also covers routine foot care for patients who need ongoing monitoring, as well as the initial assessment that helps identify whether a more specialised area of care, such as diabetic foot care or biomechanical assessment, is required.

Signs it's time for a check-up

  • Persistent hard skin, corns, or calluses
  • Signs of redness, puss and infections of toenails and skin
  • Cracked skin or fissures, particularly around the heels
  • Nail changes such as thickening, discolouration, or discomfort
  • General foot discomfort that hasn’t improved on its own

Caring for your feet between visits

Simple daily habits go a long way toward keeping feet healthy: washing and drying feet thoroughly (including between the toes), moisturising dry skin, trimming nails straight across, and wearing well-fitted footwear. If a concern doesn’t settle with basic care, it’s worth having it assessed rather than waiting.

Who is it for?

General podiatry is suitable for patients of any age. Many patients return for regular routine care, while others visit for a specific concern that has developed recently.

What to expect at your appointment

Every appointment begins with a careful assessment of your feet and a discussion of any concerns you have. From there, we explain our findings clearly and agree on a treatment plan suited to your individual needs.
