Advanced Wound Care

Advanced wound care is limb saving and therefore a vital wound care clinic service is available on the premises headed by Sister Anne Berzen.

What does advanced wound care involve?

Advanced wound care involves careful assessment, monitoring, and management of complex or slow-healing wounds. This often requires a combination of techniques, including debridement, offloading pressure from the affected area, appropriate dressings, and regular review.

Signs a wound needs specialist attention

  • A wound that hasn’t started to heal within a couple of weeks
  • Increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge
  • Wounds associated with diabetes or poor circulation
  • Recurring wounds in the same area
  • Any wound accompanied by fever or spreading redness

Reducing your risk

For patients prone to slow-healing wounds – particularly those with diabetes or circulation concerns – daily foot checks, well-fitted footwear, and prompt attention to any new cut or blister all help reduce the risk of a minor issue becoming a more serious one.

When is specialised wound care needed?

Wounds that are slow to heal, recurring, or related to an underlying condition such as diabetes often benefit from a more structured approach than general wound management alone.

Our approach

Andy and Anne are both members of CAWCC (Cape Advanced Wound Care Centre), and Andy has completed training in the use of Total Contact Casts for the treatment of complex diabetic foot ulcers and related pathologies. Wound care is managed within a broader clinical framework, allowing for careful monitoring and appropriate intervention over time.
